Our condolences go out to Lee's
family and friends. Even though I didn't know Lee very well I was
privileged to have seen the quality of his work. He was by all accounts,
a genius when it came to getting out the tools. I have heard many
glowing stories of his dedication and commitment not only to the
creation, repair and modification of motorcycles, but to the Biker
fraternity in general. This is indeed a sad loss. Taken to soon RIP
mate.

“Small Problem” – The passing of a genuine friend. ~
BY Trevor
Kuzio
Anyone who has ever had any dealings with Eng Chin Lee or “Lee Biker” as we knew him, knows the saying “small problem lah”. It didn’t matter if you were broke down halfway up Thailand on the way to Burapa bike week with a blown engine or if you came to his shop with a tire issue. The answer was always the same, “small problem lah”. All it ever took to get any problem sorted out was a phone call to Lee. He always answered the phone, “Wazup Bro?” and finished off with “can lah, small problem lah”. Lee was a man small in stature, but I dare say had the biggest heart of anyone most of us have come across on this entire planet. Lee was born in the village of Bagan, Sungai Besar, the middle child of 3. Lee quit school when he was 15 and started work at his uncle’s motor cycle shop. Lee got married when he was 20 and as he could not read or write English his wife helped in this department. He
worked for his uncle for more than 10 years and was trained by Boon Siew
Motors and Honda. “Lee
Biker's” was first established in 2002 when Lee left the village for KL
with only his tools and 5 assorted bikes of Japanese decent. There was
virtually no money in his pockets when he started a workshop in Ampang for
the repair of Japanese bikes. In 2005 he built more bikes for Johnny as well as Larry Holloway. These bikes have won numerous shows around the world. When designing the bikes with Larry and a problem arose, Lee would always reply “never mind”. This has since evolved into “NFM” when ever an obstacle is encountered. Lee was busy building bikes based on a Harley Davidson’s that he would chop up and weld to different configurations. He was a magician with the metal. He would go to a pile of metal dig out an old piece and literally beat it into something that was exactly what was required. There are many stories about Lee and his family’s generosity. When one of our brothers fell on hard times at work and had no way out other to sell his Harley, they were there. Lee bought the bike, but for some unexplainable reason could not resell it until its former owner’s finances improved and he was able to buy the bike back from Lee. The truth of the matter is, Lee never did attempt to sell it as he knew of the bikes sentimental value to its rightful owner. In 2008 Lee and Burt Muise started Lee Custom Choppers Sdn Bhd, (LCC), with the intent to build custom choppers for the Malaysian market. They started by securing the S & S engine dealership for Malaysia and began building bikes with the big new engines. Lee finished “Blackie” for me in late 2008, an Exile Cycles style bike with the first retro style Panhead engine in Malaysia, a 103” S & S. Lee built this bike from pictures that I gave him. I cut the pictures out of various bike magazines of 4 different bikes, wanting the tank from one, the front end from another and so on. I left him to his own devices and creativity and was amazed at the finished product. April 2009 was a very proud time for Lee as he joined the Malaysian chapter of Headhunter MC Family. His initiation took place in Phuket during bike week. I have never seen anyone as proud as Lee to put on his colors for the very first time. Recently
LCC obtained a dealership agreement with “Baker Drivetrain” who
manufacture one of the top V twin transmissions on the planet. This as it turns out at 38 years of age, this would be Lee’s last ride. I have a vivid memory of Lee roaring out into traffic on the new bike, HeadHunter colors flying over that giant 330 back tire with the biggest grin on his face that you can imagine. Lee passed away later that night from heart failure. Ride on my Brother we will ride together again one day…. This last bike will be unveiled to the public at the KL Bike Fest on Friday the 23rd at Bukit Kiara.

Riding in the sky in eternal bliss, knowing he touched so many lives with his Love and honesty and care. Lee was a brilliant man showing his great extraordinary talent and skill in building rare and beautiful custom motorcycles. We thank Lee for helping us believe in all that is good, respectful and honest. A warmhearted man filled with kindness and goodness. It seams he gave all of himself and never expected anything thing in return. From: "Three Finger Paul Godin” “There are no words to describe the feeling of loss Things
I remember The
first person in An
old school motorcycle shop like the old days. Working, parts everywhere,
always talking bikes, drinking beer and brotherhood. One of my favourite
things in KL was just hanging out at Lees shop Nearly
every day I saw Lee he invited me to share a meal with him and his family,
nearly every day I saw Lee he wanted to share something, every day I saw
Lee he was my brother. In
a day when ‘Brother’ has become a throw away word used with too
frequent flippancy, Lee was a man who truly was a brother and was
everything that that small word with such a huge meaning means I
remember standing back to back with Lee and others when things were
getting rough. No one was as staunch as the smallest man there I
remember wild and reckless rides through the streets of KL in the late
hours, engines roaring, hearts pumping, and huge smiles. Every time I
heard him coming, hammering that throttle it bought a smile to my face Lee
was one of the most generous and genuine people I have ever met anywhere
and I regard myself as truly lucky to have spent the time I did with him All
my love and respect little brother! I should say Ride in Peace but I know
you will be on the loudest Harley in heaven To
Lees family my deepest condolences and god bless There
are no words "Three
Finger Paul Godin” |

From
Dr. Ahmad
Brother Eng Chin Lee,
aka as Ali, of Lee Bikers and Lee Custom Bikes Malaysia,
came from a poor Fisherman family of 3 children. One elder
sister, himself, and a younger brother. His sister passed away
due to dengue fever at Subang Medical Centre. Although they are
from a poor family, they and their relatives are very closely bonded
and they help each other in the fishing village of Bagan, Sungai
Besar especially when there are problems.
Lee stopped schooling when he was 15 years old and joined his Uncle`s motorcycle business as a mechanic. He could not read or write and got married at an early age of 20 and his wife helped him out in the paper work. He was trained by Boon Siew Motors and started working very hard for his Uncle for more then 10 years where his interests in customising 2 stroke engines started. His interests in motorcycles grew with further training by Honda Motor Company and finally he started servicing repairing and customising the bigger bikes all by his deep interest sweat and experience. His uncle gave him his first big bike a Kawasaki 800cc with which he made many friends and started customising more big bikes from all over Malaysia. This was when I met him and I became very interested in his enthusiasm for big bikes. His hands held the bolts and nuts from my bike carefully and his fingers ran delicately over them slowly as he scrutenised them before putting them aside. From then I started riding with him and friends in Sabak Bernam as Lee Bikers of Sabak Bernam, to all major bike events in Malaysia and the neighbouring countries. He stopped his salaried job and started his own motorcycle business for 3 years in Sungai Besar servicing and repairing the smaller engined bikes, even go-carts, grass cutters and fishing boats. He bought an old discarded Titan Scorpion from an auction house with most of the parts missing and he dismantled the bike and engine to pieces and put it back with the missing parts running as new after I helped him source the missing parts from overseas. This made his entry to the big V twins from America. He saw not much opportunities in the small town and his customer base was increasing from all over Malaysia so he relocated his business to Kuala Lumpur and worked very hard till the early hours to meet his targets with the loving support from his family. With encouragement from all his many customers he learned the bikers thinking and started customising bikes to International standards and relocated his business to the stratigic Jalan Pahang roundabout area. He started winning awards locally and Internationally and his business and friends made him and icon in Malaysia and nearby countries. He was given the dealership for S&S Engines and performance parts from USA and from this partnership he catapulted to International acknowledgement of his proffessionalism. His biking and realisation of the different types of customers needs and satisfaction and his friendly mannor made him so well known that all are shocked with his sudden demise at an early age of 38 years. All bikers will not forget his brotherhood in the biking world. Even today his first Kawasaki is being ridden somewhere in Malaysia with a ten gallon customised fuel tank. |
